| Vancouver is finally getting into the raining season, dark, cold and depressed. I was standing outside in the rain for 4 hours, shooting the women soccer game and helping out my volunteer on the men's game. Thank you Megan for bringing me the hot coffee. It saved my life. Kellan, my photo volunteer, made some really good shots. "dedication" was what he said to me after the game. Yup, holding a metal camera with telephoto lens covered by a plastic bag, standing directly in the rain for hours was not fun at all. However when you look at your photos at home, you know it's worthful. Well, the Greeks only ask one question after a man died " Did he have passion ". One thing that I like when I go back home is seeing Muffin around. She is so sweet.

| The luckest thing happened to me this year was I could have chance work for Ubyssey, working with these crazy talented editorial members,
working in the lovely team..........
Last night, we were working on the paper production for page friday, the Halloween issue.
We cut a pumpkin, dress it up, take photo and use it for the cover page......
6 wonderful volunteers came to the office, dressing up with different costumes, modelling for me to take photo for the feature.
I set up my tripod and camera in the small interview room, taking photo against a white wall. Then I scanned a strip of film and replace the neg. part with these new photos....God, I love it. |

I went to watch the screening of "The Weather Man" with other Ubyssey editors tonight. It's not a great movie, but quite funny.
The story made me miss my parents more than ever. Last night, I posted my photos in the Fredmiranda photo forum. People there are nice. They left some lovely comments. It's interesting to check out some status about my website. "Picture of angry couples" is in the top 17 searching strings?
I can't believe that there are lot of people checking out my website from European countries.
Cool. :) |

| I got a pretty busy schedule on this weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there were a lot of sports games on campus. One good
thing was that UBC won all the games. I tried my 1D MarkII-N. The camere ROCKS. What freaks me out is the camera battery. One single charge could allow me to shoot 3 hours hockey game, two basketball games and one field hockey game. And I still can use it for some street shots. My L-series lens works better on the new camera as well.
After the field hockey game, I drove around the UBC campus to photography some street scenes. I like Fall. It's so colorful and the weather is getting colder than before, which reminds me of my hometown Beijing. check out the photo here. Last night, I went to Simon's party, drinking and dancing! I had a lot of fun there.

| Even though I paid by credit card and I could be really poor in the following months to pay off the debts, I am happy
with my decision of buying a new camera, the Canon EOS 1D MarkII N. Pro level camera is way different from any of the consumer level cameras. It's heavy, solid, fast and accurate. Beyond all expectations, I was amazed by the super fine noise handling in this camera and the accuracy in the AI SERVO mode. Shooting under 1600 ISO
Like my store manager said, now I don't have any excuse for taking a bad photo. If there is any problem on the photo, it must be me, the photographer who doesn't know how to handle the camera/lens in the correct way. I need more time to get used of the new camera and I want to practice more than ever to make improvement. Nikon Canada was holding a production conference tonight with Kerrisdale Camera staffs. It's in the Hart House close to Deer Lake. I had a nice time with my manager and other co-workers there. It's fun to play around the new products and check out the top line Pro level camera. Anyway, it's a fun experience. |

| Trista went back Calgary in the morning with her friends. All the sudden, I am alone again.
After working at the camera store, I went on my photo assignment, the women hockey game at UBC. Well, hockey!! Even though I tried some new methods to shoot the game, I just couldn't figure out a correct way to do it. There are indeed lot of stuff to learn and to practice.
Before the game, I talked to Richard Lam, a professional photographer worked for UBC athlete department. He used to be the photo editor at Ubyssey as well and had lot of experience shooting sports game. Next time, I should ask him for some shooting tips. Finally, I drag myself to the computer desk updating the photo for Ubyssey News Paper.
Check out the October Issues. |

Trista's friends, Neil and Penny, came here for a research field trip. We had a wonderful time together.
I was quite busy lately and it's really nice to have a break, fooling around with friends. |

| I was standing in the rain for 2 hours, shooting the football game between UBC and SFU. It's cold and wet.
My lens and camera were covered by two plastic bags and a Pelican rain cover. But I was exposed completely in the rain. The strange feeling was that whenever I looked through the viewfounder and touching the shutter with my finger, the whole world was freezed and I felt great at that moment. It's so simple and cheerful. It's just you and your target. And the only thing that you could think was how to take the photo which could perfectly represent the moment you experienced ...
Despite the bad weather, photos turned out better than I expected. I am getting more comfortable to shoot football now. |

| Nothing could be more exciting than looking at the newly printed Ubyssey News Paper. Check out the updated news photo. Last Saturday, Ubyssey as a team attened the longboat tournament.
Sadly , I missed the first game in the morning, however, I was glad to make the 2nd game in the afternoon. I got the photo from Megan two days ago. It's a fun memory. Finally I get my free 20G Ipod Photo from Airmiles. I gonna have some fun with it. |

| Once a while, you need some quality time by youself, to think, to learn and to relax. I went to Victoria on the weekend with a backpack of camera gear and a notebook to write down my feeling. Despite the bad weather, I have had a great time.
I walked on the street with a cup of hot coffee. Surprisingly I didn't take as much photos as I planned Although it's windy and sometime raining, I was so lucky to catch the last afterglow at the ferry terminal. It's the highlight of my day. Check out the photo!!! |
