5th August 2004 Thursday
Just a rough calculation, from 22nd July till today, Trista and I totally drove around 5000 KM, running around the East Canada. It's been a fantastic journey. Driving on the highway made people feel good. (although sometime it's kind of sleepy)

Today, mom went back to vancouver in the afternoon. After taking her to the airport, I went to watch movie with Trista. hee hee..."I, robot" was the one! it's a nice action movie. Afterward, we sneak into another show room, keep watching the 2nd movie, "the Manchurian Candidate". The script is cool. at least, i keep wondering how the movie will be ended. so, 9 bucks for two movies, WORTH! (hee hee i think i won't do it again...kind of guilty...but FUN)

Talking about movie, i don't know where do you get the preview online. To me, I watch the preview from
Apple's trailer web site. I think you can find everything you need there.

Virus attact!

Few days ago, I got an email from one of my friend and there was an attachment, some kind of weird named SCR file. (windows screen saver file) it's in zip format and couldn't be opened.....ANYWAY...it's a virus called w32.Mabutu. what it does is automatically send email to every person in my windows address book. so, if you recieved any weird name email like (ok cout, i am nude..) with an attachment file from me lately, please delete it! if you by chance tried to open this file, well, you will get some trouble!

Don't be panic! this is not a vital virus. if you have any anti-virus program like Norton, please use it to kill the virus. if not, FOLLOW Me:

1. Turn off your computer. Start it again and keep pressing F8 untill you can choose "start Widnows in Safe mode".

2. Once you get into windows safe mode, click "Start" then " Run", typing "regedit" then pressing Enter! This will open the windows registry for you.

3. In the left panel, double-click the following:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion>Run

4. In the right panel, locate and delete the entry whose data value (the rightmost column) is:

    winupdt = "RUNDLL32.EXE <.DLL filename>,_mainRD"

5. Close the Registry and restart your computer in the normal way.

This procedure will remove autostart entries from the registry prevents the malware from executing at startup. Sorry for the trouble!

Haaa, I just saw a picture in the FM forum. it's titled as " why the dog left home" .....

will Cheeta become that big???
8th August 2004 Sunday
What am I doing lately? Since Trista will move to Calgary, she and I spend most of the day packing everything into boxes. so far, we have 18 boxes, each weights around 30 - 40 lbs.

Just some boring facts in case you are interested, the car shipment from Toronto to Calgary will be 760 bucks after tax. Well, from Toronto to Vancouver will be around 1000 bucks. It will take 7 days. For the personal stuff, 25 boxes (40 lbs each) will probabaly cost 500 bucks. We decide ship the car and the stuff instead of driving back to Vancouver. Why? it gonna be too tired. After the 5000 KM trips in the East Canada, We'd rather take flight back to Vancouver.

So, the flight tickets are booked on 11th, 5pm YVR time landing.

well, I kept wondering that how many shoes and bags does a girl need? so far, for what I count, Trista has at least 30 pairs of shoes and more than 10 hand bags. Bloody, but she has her own "execuse" which is..."I collect shoes and hand bags". oh well well....frankly, I do wish I could collect money. Anyway, men are from Mars; women are from Venus.

Cheer UP MAN.

Is anyone going to go to LA lately? If so, you must go check out the show there: the body worlds at California Science Center.

"There are plasticized bodies and organs from some 200 donated cadavers in the exhibit, and they're just standing around with body parts splayed out in various configurations that show off the different systems in the body. Particularly amazing were exhibits that showed only plasticized blood vessels (the rest of the body had been removed)! Everything was very well arranged, and the exhibit makes it easy to see how everything fits together inside of us."

Shouldn't we underestand more about ourselves?

9th August 2004 Monday

Finally, I finish the journal for the Maritimes provinces! Go check it out!!

12th August 2004 Thursday
I went back Vancouver yesterday. The flight was delayed from 3:30pm till 10:30pm. So, at 0:20 YVR time, Trista and I landed at Vancouver airport.

I was reading news on the internet today, finding out an interesting topic.

Finally, the memory card will reach the Terabytes field:
Taiwanese manufacturers are planning to launch a new memory card format clamied to offer transfer speeds of 120MB per second, 10 times faster than Secure Digital cards. It is also claimed the capacity of the card has the potential to reach 2 Terabytes (TB). The ¡¥£gcard¡¦, which is the same size as an SD card, will be unveiled at Taipei International Electronics Show, Taitronics, October 8-12. Click here for more detail

At earlier time, I checked out Tim Hortons' web site. As I suddenly had a thought that why there is no Tim Hortons near UBC? what if there is one in the university village? Do you think the business gonna be good there? Anyway, I checked out its web site, finding some information about franchising. Frankly, the franchising cost is way more than I expect, but I think it's still in a reasonable range. go Tim Hortons's web site, if you are interested as much as I did.

I still have 3 hrs jet lag......go ZzzzZzz now.......ohoh by the way....Congratulations Carolyn for your new JOB!!!

13th August 2004 Friday

Yup, this is what I get today. Walking in Metrotown with Trista, we went to HMV to look up some soundtrack. however, instead of finding out the CD we want, I saw this dvd set. I've been waiting for this for years actually. 4 dvd with double side each, contain 6 unforgettable final games!

* 1991 NBA Finals. Game 5
* 1992 NBA Finals. Game 1
* 1993 NBA Finals. Game 6
* 1996 NBA Finals. Game 6
* 1997 NBA Finals. Game 5........This is my fav. one.
* 1998 NBA Finals. Game 6

Beside the complete game, there are still lot of bonus features. It really is a cool dvd set. And I will cherish this for sure! There are lot of wonderful moments of Bulls.........anyway....I go back watching the 1991 NBA final game 5.........GO GET IT MAN!

by the way, why there is no rain in Vancouver? SO HOT!!! and the grasses turn into yellow. :(

15th August 2004 Sunday
I went to Joffre Glacier Lake with Trista and Mom.

Please click here to read about the journey.

18th August 2004 Wednesday
Announcement: From 19th to 24th August, I will be on the trip to Calgary, Alberta with Trista. Since we decide living in camping site, I probably couldn't get any internet access during these days. Please come back visiting my page around 24th or 25th. oh, the interesting thing is, i will drive my father's conversion van, based on a GMC Safari. I put a double size bed inside the van (hee hee..the van is just about to fit the bed.). and that's the place where we gonna sleep. anyway, i will take some picture later on, so you guys could know what i'm talking about.

ok, time to sleep, see you guys on 25th and I will try to take some good pictures.

24th August 2004 Tuesday
Home sweet home!

After 13 hrs drive in the Rockie mountain, I am finally sitting in front of my computer. The pictures during this trip are still in my laptop and I won't touch them tonight. So, probably i will update the trip journal tomorrow. Just let me relax now!

Canon EOS 20D

I checked the news from the internet, to my surprise, Canon released its newest digital SLR camera, EOS 20D with a 8.2 Mpx COMS senser. (Well, i am still holding my 10D and still feeling that 10D is a really wonderful camera.) I read through the preview online, and it shocked me. Beside the same looking with 10D, EOS 20D has really improved in lot of aspects.

The all new 9 points AF system which has its AF points in a diamond pattern. It's quite noticeably faster than the 10D and has better low light working range.

Beside the new AF system, 20D only takes 0.2 seconds to start up. (10D need 2.5 second). And it could allow you to keep shooting for 23 frames at once. (around 5 frames per second).

check the dprivew for more details!

No doubt that 20D is a cool camera, but i will just keep using my lovely 10D. I think people could take wonderful pictures no matter what kind of camera they are using. Specially, 10D could give me everthing I want so far. (except 20D provides the B&W function which 10D does not)

25th August 2004 Wednesday
Finally, I finished the web page for the trip in Nepal. This time, I didn't write down any words. I think pictures could give us a fine image of Nepal.

This time, I also tried something new. I made some of my pictures in Black & White and I enjoyed them alot.

click here to start the journey.

I went to UBC this morning, buying the new text books and also selling some of the old one. Well, a math text book, Number Theory, was worth 140 bucks, but now, only 26 bucks. BLOODY........ @_@!!

While I was waiting to get my new U-Pass, I saw an announcement about the new bus loop location. Why they move the bus loop? Probably they wanna build another ugly high-tech building there.

oh well.........

26th August 2004 Thursday
Please wish me luck! Today, I handed in my resume to the Kerrisdale Cameras. I wish to get a part time job as a sales people there to sell camera in the follow months. I don't know whether I could get the position, since they just hired someone doing the part time sales. Anyway, see if i am lucky enough!

Later around 8pm, Trista and I drove to the Fisherman's wharf to see the sun set. However, instead of watching the sun set, we were both amazed by the beautiful moon. Although it's not fully rounded yet, it still has this stunning views.

Another interesting thing was that there were lot of old fellows who carried the tripod and cool camera gears, lenses, flash. they were sitting together, taking pictures together. It looked so cool.

I took a shoot for one of them who carry a huge Canon L series lense with a X1.4 tele-converter and this huge flash on top of it.

Isn't it wonderful to see someone who also loves photography?

I also read an article about how airport baggage scanning equipment could jeopardize the unprocessed film. and for all I can say, is to keep the camera and films together with your carry on bags, since the X-ray equipment used to inspect carry-on baggage uses a very low level of x-radiation that will not cause noticeable damage to most films. However, the x-radiation from x-ray equipment on check-in baggage is way stronger and harmful. Although I seldom take film pictures, I will for sure to keep this in mind!

28th August 2004 Saturday
I am so proud to be Chinese!

Watching the woman volleyball final this afternoon. It's a great game. Both Russian and Chinese teams played well. Russian won the first two games, however, Chinese team got a great comeback and won the final game at last. It's the first gold medal for Chinese woman volleyball team since 1984. Lot of former players trained hard but not lucky enough to get the medal. I almost cried out when I watched the winning ball. Like I said, I'm proud to be a Chinese!

Today, I finally watched the Godfather part III with Trista and mom. It's a fantastic movie. I love it, from part I to the last. I tried my best to catch every words said by Michael Corleone, the Don, the Godfather. One thing made me think was how to define a good man and a bad man? I thought about Corleone's, from Vito,to Michael till the last Godfather, Vincent Mancini. They are all good men. A man of his word. They are all good fathers or a man who could do anything to protect their families. All of them are willing to protect or help their neighbors. All of them are strong and make fortune for other family members. I do respect the responsibilties they have toward family and the people they love. However, I upset about the other side of their life, killing each other, wiping off enemies, ordering the death of someone who is in the way......Though Corleones are mafia, they made me think about how to be a man.

Mario Puzo is an amazing writer and Marlon Brando is the best actor!

30th August 2004 Monday
Trista and I went to Burnaby Mt. to see the night view around 0:30. However, at 1am, some guards came over the place and asking people to leave. It's kind of weird and disappointment to me, as I remembered, Burnaby Mt. was usually opened for 24 hrs. am i wrong? if not, why they asked people to leave? (for safety?.....^_^!!!)

Trista showed me a very interesting web site about space and science. the URL is www.space.com. It provides lot of cool space images, taking by some complex cameras or ultraviolet equipments.

our sun!!

This picture was captured on June 1, 2004, at 19:00. The image was captured using the SOHO Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT), Fe IX/X line, 171 A.

Another interesting thing. I did a online IQ test from tickle.com. . hee hee for fun......and I got 135 with the following explanation:

Your Intellectual Type is Visionary Philosopher. This means you are highly intelligent and have a powerful mix of skills and insight that can be applied in a variety of different ways. Like Plato, your exceptional math and verbal skills make you very adept at explaining things to others ¡X and at anticipating and predicting patterns. And that's just some of what we know about you from your IQ results.

But the question is "am I ???????????".

31th August 2004 Tuesday
Did you see the beautiful sunset tonight? I know you missed it. But i tried to catch it for you.

This is tonight's sunset. I took the picture near No.1 Road and Francis. This is the thing that I love, beautiful sunset in a hot summer day. Fantastic! At the moment you pushing the shutter, the happiness was gained and the feeling was unique.

I don't feel like writing anything. But I know this is a good ending for August.
