| Flying, coughing, jet lag are the themes of today. Announcement 0: I am back!! Announcement 1: My laptop got virus, and I can't login into the operating system which means that all the pictures i took in China (around 8000 pics) couldn't be accessed right now. These pictures are still in my laptop's harddrive. Bloody! I will update the diaries of May and June right after i got those pictures out. God bless me! So, this is the lesson i learned, no matter how tired you are, backup the important pictures right after you transfer them into the harddrive. We never know what's gonna happen when you start the computer again. Suddenly i feel kind of insecure about the digital file. what aout someday, the technology has improved way faster than expectation. and after one night, all the harddrive in the "old fashion" couldn't be used again. or, someday, there may be a fatal virus that destories every single harddrive. Announcement 2: Coughing.....Coughing...Coughing!!!!! After landing, i kept coughing for almost a day. i wish all of my friends could take good care of themselves. maybe i am too weak...anyway...wish me luck! Announcement 3: Believe or not, my house selling agent forgot to lock the door after the last visiting. When I got home by taxi, the house door was opened. It was opened for 3 days already. Scared me! lucky that i didn't lose anything inside. But, if you are selling house and out of town like me, be careful about the agent. Announcement 4: If you see an accura 3.2 TL on the road with plate number " 221 EFM ", yup, it's my car! this is the new plate number for my car. say goodbye to the old one "KXT 106". he was with me for 5 years already. i miss him.

Thank you Johnson for helping me repair my laptop.
After couple hrs, we (actually him) finally find out the problem. There is a virus in my laptop, but the virus doesn't have such power to make this kind of damage. So, after searching through the HD, Johnson found out the problem. There is a missing file, "winlogon.exe", in the folder "windows/system32/". Therefore, everytime, when windows reaches the login stage, it will restart the computer. After copy/paste the "winlogon.exe" file, i could log into the system. Thank you again! Finally, I could reach my pictures which i took in China. i will organize them as soon as possible so that i could upload the files. I am pretty happy, because i get those pictures back. |

| Today, i went back to UBC, making appointment with ECON adviser. Afterward, i walked around the compus.
UBC in summer time is very pretty. Everywhere is green. i took my camera, tring to catch every single
view in the campus.
Chemistry building
Click here to see more pictures. Campus is indeed pretty. Weather is pretty as well. Around 7pm, i went out to pick up my new 200GB removable hard drive. On the way there, i saw the sky, turning into pink color. It's so pity that i didn't bring my camera. Otherwise, i am sure that everyone gonna be impressed by the sky. The sky remind me about a movie, "Vanilla Sky". Believe or not, it's indeed a "vanilla sky".
Talking about the hard drive. Johnson recommended it to me last time. It's actually a USB device which allow you to put an ordinary hard drive inside, using USB to connect computer. The device is around $60 and i bought a 200 GB Western Digital hard drive. This hard drive will be used to backup some important files in my computer, such as picture files or some code. today, i thought about one thing. How do you face the loneliness? How can you be tough? For the past 5 years, i tried my best to learn one thing: enjoy the loneliness. Sometime, loneliness makes you sleepless. Sometime, it makes you cry. However, at the end, it makes you tough. So, if you are facing it, please be tough! please keep your smile! i am here, always here, supporting you. So.......SMILE......please |

| What a day! Today, I should have an appointment at 10:30 with an UBC ECON adviser and another appoitment with
an agent at 12:30, but I missed them all.
why? ...... tell you this, first sight of my eyes, the clock was already pointed to 12:40.
anyway, i do my best to fight with the bloody jet lag. i found out a nice photography forum. go take a look if you like photography as well. i registered into this forum and posted some of my works. however, since i am still at the beginning level, all of my posts got only one reply "i can't see your picture". hee hee... at least there is a reply.
i looked up my book shelf, finding out a book writen by Bill Gates probably 4 years ago. it's called "Business @ the speed of thought". i've read this book once before. but today, when i read the first chapter again. there are lot of new feeling coming out of my mind. no matter how you feel about Microsoft, Bill Gates is indeed a digital hero. Even today, computer engineers are still trying their best to "implement" the idea which has been writen in this book 4 years ago. i do wish someday, i could join them, developing the top class digital nervous system. |

| Wake up at 3pm again today. How comes this time, the jet lag is such powerful that totally turns me upside down? 5pm i went out....go to buy some food for the dinner (or lunch?) then go back home, packing up my camera, and tripod.... i planed going to North Vancouver's lighthouse park, to take some sunset pictures.... but, when i got there, it was too cloudy that the sky wasn't pretty at all. so, instead of taking sunset pic, i aimed my camera to the plants along the trial.
Although i took picture of flowers, i really have no idea what it is. sigh...maybe i should start learning it..at least, i should know what it calls. ok, stop here. 10:30pm, i gotta go to watch Harry Potter by myself. |

| Today's topic is Macro lense. today, i have chance, going to a camera store, trying some macro lenses from different brands.
What i tried today were Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1, a Canon EF 100mm F/2.8 Macro 1:1, and an Extension Tube EX 25II which has been
installed on my EF50mm F/1.8 lense. I took some shots in the store and try to compare the difference.
Tarmon on the left, Canon on the right.
Canon 50mm on the left, the Extension Tube on the right.
Before showing the results, I have to mention the prices for these lenses. The Tarmon one is around $600, Canon 100mm is around $1100, the Extension tube is $200 bucks. I shot the same object with different lenses at their closest focus range. Now, let's see the results. the Tarmon 90mm.
the Canon 100mm
the Canon 50mm + Extension Tube
Ignore the brightness, just compare the size of the words. For the macro lense, a 1:1 means that the size of the word in the picture shoule be as same as the real object. so, from the pictures above, we could see that, the Canon 100mm F/2.8 Macro lense presents the best size of the object. almost 1:1. what surprised me was that the Canon50mm plus a EX 25II extension tube could actually provide a better image quanlity than the Tarmon lense and a nearly 1:1 size. you can see this by compare the word "Eyepiece Extender". Then consider about the price, an extension tube will only cost 200 bucks. It will give you the same image quanlity as the Tamron one, which priced at 600 bucks. of course i will go with the extension tube for now. it gonna save me alot. :) today, Trista is on the way back to Toronto. She should be there around my 3 to 4pm. 16 hrs flight will make everyone tired. so, good luck, and please take more rest. |

| Daisies! there are daisies beside my parking lot. i didn't notice them before. but, today, when i went to the parking lot, i saw them under the sun shine. it's so pretty. i ran back home, grabbing my camera, a Sigma 70-300mm macro APO lense together with the tripod, trying my best to record the image that i saw. and i can't deny that, the macro world is amazing.
a little daisy, hiding behind the grasses.
small things are incredible. it gives you a whole new feeling when you look at it closely. you could suddenly realize that how many details you ignored everyday. how much colors you are missing. nature is wonderful, flowers, trees, birds, insects.... everything is so pretty. it's another 11th. another special day to me. another unforgettable month passed...... and i miss you tonight! |

I went to downtown today. After having an all you can eat shushi lunch, I carried my camera walking around the Robson st.
Some familiar stories has been closed and changed new owner with new business. Instead of taking pictures on the street, i ended
up with reading books in Chapters at Robson Square. I think I couldn't be alived without a nice book store near by.
Vancouver's summer belongs to outdoor. After reading books in Chapters, i decided rent a bike, riding around the Stantley Park. Frankly, this is my first time rent a bike in Stanley Park, i used to do the rollerblade and i have my own shoes. Anyway, try some new is always good. This is the little blue i rent. it's cute...hee hee..
click here to see the pictures during the trip. Stanley Park is so pretty. Everytime I go there, i feel so relax and refreshed. English Bay is also a nice place that you could take a rest in the hot summer. Just before I went to return the bike, i bought a Jumbo Dog, it tasted really good. There was a fat lad sitting beside me who ate 4 jumbo dogs. Really ^___^!!!!
English Bay
Just on the way out the parking lot, I met Eric, a friend from Taiwan. He is studying in UBC as well. We were in the same class in an ECON course. He is really a nice guy, tall (1.93m) and humor. We took me to a bar where they made their own beer. The beer tasted really good.
We talked a while, about future, about relation. Although we didn't go closely before, we indeed have lot of common topic. It's really a nice talk. Surprisingly, we will in the same ECON course again next term, a course about international trading. A day like this belongs to Summer, relax and comfortable. Don't be upset if you are alone.. Open your doors, starting your car, going close to the nature. You will be happy again. |

| Friends...Friends.......Friends!!!! it's so nice to meet friends again. Today, some of my UBC friends went out together to have a dinner and then we went to carolyn's home, playing some video game and chating. talking with those guys is easy, relax and happy. i do wish we could meet often in the future. from left to right: Cathy is on the sofa. James and ET are together. Daniel sits on the floor. Lawrence and Carolyn just say hi to me. and i am the camera man....... ohoh, where is Mr.A?
on the way back from the restaurant, we were passing through the river road. the sun set at that moment was so pretty. so i stop the car, taking out my camera, photographing the sunset.
Friendship forever! oh, you can find the other journal about tonight form carolyn's page. |

| ......today, i am in WATERLOO. Driving around the city, around the university of waterloo are the major events of today. it's a lovely campus and a decent small city. people here, though living in a simple life style, is highly concentrated to pursue their personal goals. near sun set, we drove around the country side close to a small town called St.Jacob. The farm lands are pretty.
dinner with Trista's cousin, Rachel, and her husband, Viccent in a noodle house. it's a lovely couple and they have a cute, two years old, Ameracan Eskimo. it's pity that i didn't take any picture. hope i could meet them again to take a picture with them. sometime, life is simple, but it could be really meaningful! |

BCE building is very famous by it's special architecture. if you read any magazines about architecture, you should know it for sure. after lunch, we went out on the street, walking around downtown area. around dinner time, we say goodbye to the Toronto downtown, driving north, heading to a nice chinese restaurant to have our dinner.
YUP, Ding Tai Fung. if you came from taiwan, you should know this restaurant, although it's famoused by its Shanhai style dishes. dinner was wonderful. we ate very full, specially Michelle and her boyfriend. GOod gOOd!
It's a short time in Toronto. i didn't take too much picture. but i am sure that i will go back here again! oh, suddenly remembered, Carolyn will go back Taiwan on Monday. the news indeed shocks me alot. last term, we were in the same group in two different courses. although the time we know each other is short, we have a nice friendship! i don't know when can i see her again, but i wish that i could see her again soon and i DO wish she will do great in Taiwan! good bye, my good friend Carolyn. oh, please don't cry when you leave Vancouver. i know you have lot of friends here and lot of wonderful memories. but FRIENDSHIP NEVER DIE!.......sigh, i will miss the bubble tea you made before and the endless mario party. anyway, go fight for your future. all your friends will support you no matter what! |

| I am in New Brunswick, living in Holiday Inn at Moncton, New Brunswick. ok, since i didn't post anything after i coming here. here you go: * The places i booked for living are all from Holiday Inn.(i joined their club, so, i could get a free night for every 15 nights.) * The car i am driving is a SUV, Ford Escape, renting it from Budget, unlimited milage plus 0 deduction insurance. * I booked the round way ticket from Jestgo, departure from Toronto, arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia. To my surprise, places in N.B are so pretty. Today, I drove along the highway 114 from Moncton down to the Fundy Bay National Park. There are lot of small towns along the highway, and the views are so impressive. The SUV, ford escape, i rent is really easy to drive. I think maybe after I going back Vancouver, i will go asking the price for this kind of suv and wish i could get one or trade in my 3.2TL. anyway...let's wait and see. church along the highway.
I will update the travel journal later on the web site. so here, i just upload few pictures during this trip. Fish boats in Alma, N.B.
sun set in the Fundy Bay National Park.
Tomorrow, we will leave New Brunswick, heading to P.E.I. I wanna drive through the Confederation bridge for really long time..... wait for my photos! |

| Farewell New Brunswick! Heading to P.E.I, the weather turned to be terrible, shower all the way down. Before we drove on the Confederation Bridge, we stoped at the last information center at New Brunswick. I wanna took some pictures of the bridge, but the weather wouldn't allow me to do it. Confederation Bridge, 12KM long!
The bridge is the coolest one i've ever seen before. oh, i just realize that there are actually 3 things that amazed me today. First one is the bridge. 2nd one is the Prince Edward Island itself. It's the cutest and prettiest island i've ever seen. Farm land all the way. Green green grass, blue sky and red beaches. It's like a wonderland. ( oh well, if you have the same eyes with me) a small light house.
the 3rd thing which amazed me today was the sun set on the island. after dinner, when we walked out of the restaurant, we saw the sun set. the sky turned to pink and then red. Believe me, this is the most beautiful sun set i've ever seen before. I ran to my car, trying my best to drive close to a open area, so that i could photograph the sun set without any block. but it took me a while to find the place, the sun set wasn't as lovely as the first sight..... please, please... try to enjoy with me! sun set on the P.E.I island
Tomorrow, we will leave this lovely island, going back to Halifax Nova Scotia. Woow, how to say, some day i will go back here. |

| Driving around P.E.I was today's major event. The Ford Escape was incredibly easy and nice to drive. Trista and i drove almost half of this little lovely province. The argricultural landscape was impressive. Trista said that she will or must go back here again in the fall time. I believe so. The changing colors of autumn will just be wonderful. Oh, ET and Carolyn, I bought your guys's gifts at the East Point in P.E.I ...hope you could like them....hee hee..
We also bought the day pass (10 bucks) for the P.E.I National park. The wild animals plus the cool scene of the Atlantic ocean made us couldn't stop taking pictures.
Around the sun set time, we arrived at the P.E.I wood island ferry terminal. We wanna take ferry back to Nova Scotia, instead of driving through the Confederation bridge again. Remember what i said yesterday that i saw the most beautiful sun set at the P.E.I island? heehee...forget it...or Never say never. Just after we arrived Caribu, Nova Scotia or say right after we drove on the high way, we saw the sun set from the back view mirror. Both of us were shocked by what we just saw.....and the scene made me stop the car right beside the high way. I took my camera, jumping on the top of the car, (well, it's the high way, higher position could let me get rid of other cars.) photograhing the following picture. God, I felt so lucky. sun set at Nova Scotia.
Tomorrow, we will start our day trip along the South Shores of Nova Scotia. By the way, the holiday inn in Halifax is kind of XXX. They said they have the high speed internet access at room, but when we arrived, the high speed internet access turned into the dial up internet access. and when we got into the room, i tried to find anything about how to connect the ISP or which number should i dial up to, but i couldn't find anything useful. so i called the room service, asking about how to xxx... then what i heard was that the hotel didn't have any ISP or own server at all, i have to find my own ISP and dial the number. WHAT THE ..!!! A phone line could become the "DIAL UP INTERNET ACCESS SERVICE"?????????? Therefore i couldn't update anything online untill i get back to Toronto on 27th. |

But the most beautiful view should be the sun set. I will post the complete travel journal later on. so here, i will only upload two pictures and wish all you guys could enjoy them with me! sun set at a lake near Peggy Cove.
the light house in Peggy Cove at sun set time.

We drove along the bay shore, seeing the lake Ontario and the CN tower. After 7 hrs drive, we were in Ottawa! The weather was terrible, heavy rain all the way. But we were lucky to get some
sun shine after 5pm.
Walking around the downtown area, the feeling was good. Ottawa is a pretty city with few people on the street. I took some pictures along the street. The parliament building was really cool.
Dinner was in a Chinese restaurant. The food there was sooooooooooooo nice, and the price was decent. Around 9:30pm, there was a light show in the Parliament hill. so, i took my tripod, going out to photography the parliament building. The pictures were good. for today's blog, I'll just upload on of them, check my travel photography later on to see the rest. Parliament Hill
Tomorrow, we will drive to Montreal. Go to ZZzzzzzZzz...now. :0 |
