3rd October 2004 Sunday
October......... A month belongs to fall.

Lately, I spend most of my time in the main library UBC. Studying math and economy with Eric. He bought a new sony laptop. I suprised by the image quanlity of the lcd. I really could say "crystal clear" about it. Sony is Sony, no matter what.

I can't deny that I really don't like math. Or i should say, I hate it more and more. Once I kept repeating on an integral calculation, it will only take no more than 10 sec to make me bored. However, i have to do it.

One thing I am happy with is that I found out the Starbucks' Frappuccino tasted really good. Eric bought me one yesterday in "Strawberry and Cream" flavour. it's really good. I tried the vanilla bean today, but I think I enjoy the "strawberry" one more....... try it, you may like it

5th October 2004 Tuesday

How lazy can one person be?
The photo journal of Canadian Rocky Mt. which Trista and I went there in August wasn't able to be updated untill tonight. Anyway, this picture was taken by myself and.....I like it. Click here to start the journey.

Today I got up around 5am, because dad and mom gonna go to US for 10 days to visit one of his old friend in Pittsburgh, PA and the flight was on 7am. Although parents are not here, Trista could come visit me soon. Actually it's on Friday. I can't wait for another 2 days.

enn...where will Max take Trista to play when she is in Vancouver? think......and think........and think.........

.......Although it's raining, Max went to downtown alone. Actually he went to Ticketmaster to buy two tickets. Not the movie music concert on friday but a "live" world/Jazz music concert, called "Dancing in the light". so, Trista, please go read the story of the show and dress up.....let max take you out of the environmental study.....
let's go enjoy the music and wine.

I fall in love with Jazz lately. From B.B King to Diana Krall. I fall deeply into Jazz. Although theoretically i know nothing about it, I just feel so comfortable when i am listening it. I play Lucianda Williams's "blue" again and again for whole night already. I think when I have time, I will go to buy her CD, the album called "Essence".

6th October 2004 Wednesday
In the morning, when I drove along the 49 St. I saw this pretty view and I took shoot of it. Although I said lot of times already, fall is the prettiest season to me!

Lot of things that i need to do today. Studying Econ for tomorrow's midterm, going to IBM job session, droping off the car to do the 70,000 KM services.....etc.......and I got cold....felt tired and sleepy.

The car cost me 700 bucks.....IBM job session was ok and i still need to study ECON later.

Eric invited me to his place and cooked dinner for me. We have had chicken, veg and soup. Pretty nice. The food tasted really good! Thank you Eric!

Thinking about Trista. She will come here on Friday.......I really can't wait it.

Today I made 1600 US dollar from my stock trading. That stock is still going up after I sold all my shares. but I think i am more on my 10% rule right now. Nothing is better than you can actually hold the money at hand.

Tomorrow is Thursday......

7th October 2004 Thursday
Finally, I finished this econ midterm. It's a bloody midterm. I think the time was too short. anyway....bygone!

Today's hightlight belongs to basket ball. Eric and James both played in their games. And both of them played very hard. No matter what kind of result they got, I believe they had a great time.

When I arrived at SRC, Eric was already playing on the court and I saw he made this beautiful block.

He was pretty concentrating on the defence.

Later in the break, he tried to dunk, but heee hee.....failed...

After Eric's game, James played in another court, as a captain of our lovely cs department team. I think his skill is pretty nice. Specially when he is playing on the full court, he knows how to find a good position. I took this shoot while he was trying to make his way through 3 defensive guy. Although the pictures is blurred, i do like the feeling.

Watching game was fun, but I believe that it's more fun to actually play the game. and Next year, i will "beg" Eric or James to let me join the team. :P It's no hurt to try, right?

8th October 2004 Friday
lot of things happened today.

I went to Royal bank in the morning to withdraw some money. when I got into my car and ready to leave, an Italian guy came out of no where. He asked me for help and explained that he is a vender of fashion cloth. He was doing this exhibition in Vancouver lately and gonna catch the flight back to Italy in 3 hrs. What he want from me is because he still have 3 sample cloths with him and it's nonsense to bring them back to Italy, so he wanna sell them to me. Well, I checked the cloth on his car. They are all GV. (Gianni Versace). 3 leather jackets sleeping in Versace bags. He said they are selling at 1000 dollar each in store, but he is willing to sell me three at 1000 bucks.

man, are you crazy?

I told him that I am just a poor little student with no extra money to buy a 1000 bucks cloth. Then he asked me to make an offer which he won't refuse. hee hee. well, this indeed made me remember God Father... "I will give him an offer which he can't refuse." hee hee..anyway.... I told him that I am willing to buy them at 100 bucks. 3 GV cloths at 100 bucks. He asked for 500 minimum. I said "ok, then forget it."

at last, he said ok to me that he could sell them all to me at 100 bucks.

Right on that moment, i felt a little bit weird. first of all, I don't need those cloth. Even if I wanna buy Versace, I could love to buy it with Trista in the store. Second, I don't even know the size of the cloth. but the thing that upseted me was that what kind of idiot will sell 3000 bucks Versace at $100 to a young little boy wearing UBC sweater? If he is not an idiot then I must be an idiot to buy his cloth.

Anyway, I asked him to show his air ticket to me. If he really gonna catch flight, at least i should believe 50% of what he said. Then it seems gave him a hard time. He grabed a ticket and show to me very quickly. I told him to slow down. and When I checked the Ticket again, oh man, it's on Nov. sth. 2003......hee hee. so i smiled to him and said "you'd better leave quickly before I call the police." then he seemed trying to explain sth. to me but he gave up.

I am happy that I am not that greedy as I thought. hee hee... at least, I didn't give him 100 bucks to get those cloths.

Well, Trista will come over in 2 hrs. I am so excited about it. I can't wait to see her. :P hee hee...after I picked her up from airport, we will go to Carolyn's dinner party at FURU Sushi, Richmond. Gathering with those cs friends could be a really nice thing.

oh man, i checked online about some tech. news. Google now provides this "Google SMS". It's a mobile service provded by Google. What is it about? By google sms, you could use your cell phone to send short message to a google server to ask question. and then you wait for 1 min. Google will send the answer back to you. :P Suddenly the mobile phone became much more powerful. Check out that link, read the detail.

9th October 2004 Saturday
Everything is great when Trista is here. :P

Later this afternoon, we went to Trista's uncle's place, meeting them up and talking with them. Around dinner time, they took us to A-Yi Hotpot on Granville and 41st. The hotpot is really good there. The food quanlity could be the best in Vancouver. We didn't eat alot, because we were rushed to attend the "Dance in the light" concert in downtown at 7:30 pm.

Lucky that we were not late for the show. The show was pretty cool. It combines the India music, Jazz and Pop music. The singer was great, so does the dancer. Although it's not that kind of "must see" type of show, it still provided this high quanlity performance. We enjoyed alot.

And one thing I love the concert is that I do enjoy to be surrounded by dressed up people.

well, life is just too beautiful. Let's enjoy it!

OH.....I am so excited now. Because finally I could see the live performance of Chang Chen-Yue in his "Kill Kitty Tour with Chang Cheng-Yue & Free9". I like his songs. I like them alot........ALLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT!

I really want to thank James for helping me buy the "kill kitty" concert tickets. Trista and I are both looking forward to have a fun in that show with you and ET!

11th October 2004 Monday
1. 8:30, swimming with Trista.

2. 13:00 wild life watching.

3. 7:30 Breaking my Canon 50mm F/1.8 lense.

4. 8:30 Kill Kitty began.

5. 12:00 Home......sweet home.

The show was really cool. I like Chang Chen-Yue!!!!!!!!! i am too tired to write more.........sleep first......

12th October 2004 Tuesday
Last night, I was so exciting that I could finally WATCH Chang-chen-Yue's show. I listened to his music for years already and I always have this dream to see him singing live. And last night the dream came true.

Click here to see more pictures!

James, Et, Trista and I bought the concert T-shirt together.

heeeeee....... I like the design.

15th October 2004 Friday
Parents were back from USA last night. They have had a great time there, hanging out with old friends, meeting new friends. I am happy that they did enjoy the trip.

Lot of people gonna leave Vancouver lately. First is Carolyn. She will go back Taiwan tomorrow. I think i will miss her. and I do wish she could take good care of herself and have a fun there. Trista and I went to her home tonight to say goodbye. She cried, since she doesn't wanna leave home. :P be tough Carolyn. Everything will be ok. Friends are still here, so does your family! We will always support you and be on your side.

Trista will leave on Sunday, going back to Calgary, living alone. Then my parents will go back Beijing on Monday, leaving me here alone with Muffin. I will enjoy my life and I believe I could do it. :P

X'mas is coming. I can't wait for it.

18th October 2004 Monday
I hate going to the airport. Today, I watched my parents walking into that boarding gate and I cried.

Trista left Vancouver yesterday and Carolyn left on last Saturday. One by one, leaving Vancouver to fight for their future. My world became quiet again.

I'll try to enjoy the loneliness.

James had this housing game tonight. I went to the game, taking picture for cs team. I think they played very good, way better than the first one. Although they lose again, I do believe that they could play better and better.

Click here to check out more pictures. (this is the link of James' personal photo album where he uploaded all game pictures there.)

20th October 2004 Wednesday
Loneliness doesn't mean Unhappy.

Although my parents and my girl friend are not here in Vancouver. I am still glad that finally I could fully arrange my time. I love this feeling. and I feel good about myself. since after all these years, I've learned how to enjoy my life!

I made a simple plan to myself. In a week, I will go watch the snow geese in Lander. Then probably in Dec, I will go watch wild swan with Trista. and I am planning going to watch couples of concerts and show in Nov and Dec, like Les Miserables, music concert about Bach's work....Greenday......etc.

Life may be simple but meaningful.

Eric took this picture for me. It's a typical UBC lunch: Pizza with drink.

Walking around campus, I could see beauties everywhere. On the way to bus loop, I saw these tress in front of the Sub building. They are so beautiful.

21th October 2004 Thursday
It's a sunny day! However, the weather news said that it will be raining for on the weekend and next week. Although it's sunny, it's still quite cold. But sunny day always makes me refreshed!

Today, I bought two tickets for myself. One is "Les Miserables" and the other one is "Madama Butterfly". They are both in Queen Elizabeth Theatre and both in Nov. I feel a little guilty when I bought these tickets, since Trista is not here. Although I could enjoy going by myself, I still want to hold her hand and walking into the theatre together. When Dec comes, I will take you to watch other shows for sure!

Another good news is I got my media pass from Ubyssey. and there are 2 uncoming events that I could attend. One is the presentation of Jane Goodall tomorrow from 9:30 to 1pm. I am so exciting about it. I read about her long long time ago. and I went to watch the IMAX movie about her before as well. I admire her passion toward wild animal, specially the chimpanzee. She almost lived 44 years with those wild animals.

How can one person have such powerful and endless passion? and I know I want to be one of them! and I believe I could do it, no matter how long it takes. At least, I have passion toward my relation with Trista and I have passion toward photography and gaining knowledge.

Another event will be UBC's basketball game on Saturday. Since I have this media pass, I could actually walk on the floor. hee hee....kind of cool uh?

Today is a sunny day. Today I feel happy.

But I know deeply that a day without you couldn't complete me! I will be here, waiting for you and I will be strong, be tough. I will be the one who could forever love you, protect you, support you and cherish you.

I know the day without me in Calgary could be tough to you. But thinking about our future. It's not far away!

My bounty is as deep boundless as the sea.
My love as deep;
The more I give to thee,
the more I have, for both are infinite.

25th October 2004 Monday
I was so busy lately. Busy on coding. cs315, operating system stuff. Multi-threads, socket......and C. I took this course already and now i am helping my friend, dongdong, to finish up the assignment. it's quite interesting actually. Since i didn't touch C or Pthread stuff for a year, it makes me exciting to pick it up again. The assignment is basically a client-server talk program, which allow user to send/recv msg in different machines. (like icq). I had lot of fun!

I went to Jane Goodall's presentation last friday. It was fun. And I was so happy to see her in person. and she presented a wonderful speech, talkig about wild animal and environmental issue.

On Saturday, I went to take pictures for UBC man's basketball game. It's really interesting. The game was between UBC and U of Waterloo, the school from where Trista graduated. The game was good. Both teams played hard. for the result, UBC won!

Waking up around 8:30 today, I walked down to the sky train station. The weather is getting colder and colder, but the scene of Autumn is still pretty.

On the train, I thought about myself. Why could I deeply fall in love with photography? I mean, from my childhood, I've been drawn to lot of activities, soccer ball, tennis, even trying to play some music instruments. But, I ended up with giving up most of them. So what's the reason for making me fall into photography?

I thought about all these reasons and finally I came out with that photography makes people see the ordinary in an extraordinary way! and that's, what I called, the essence of photography. what's more, I feel deeply that it's also the essence of how to gain the happiness.

Sometime, we are frustrated about our boring normal life. We feel sad about being alone. If so, please do cheer up. There are lot of beauities in our life. Trying to find them and trying to appreciate how wonderful the life is. Sometime, the beauty is just right there but we can't see it. Sometime, we just take granted of everything and forgot to appreciate.

Life is wonderful and it's too short. We can't waste our time to be sad. There won't be another life. So, please, don't waste anytime on tears. PLEASE DO SMILE!!!!!!

26th October 2004 Tuesday
I got an email from ubyssey's photo editor, Nic, last night and I was told that President Natsagiin Bagabandi of Mongolia will give a speech in UBC's Liu center tomorrow at 10am. and I could go take picture for this event. :P

When I got Liu center, there were lot of police officers and security guys walking around the building. I found my name in the sign list and got my pass easily. After a police officer checked both of my school bag and camera bag, I walked into the conference room. After checking out the light condition, I assembled the flash and got ready for taking picture.

Around 10:20, the president showed up. Althought he is not as tall and strong as I thought, he indeed gave everyone a wonderful speech.

His speech was around 45 mins. He talked about Mongolia, about the relation between Mongolia and Canada and about his expectation between these two countries.

It's the first time that I went to attend a conference which involves a country's president. I am satisfied of myself that I wasn't nervous when I took pictures.

Thank you Ubyssey for giving me such a wonderful experience!

27th October 2004 Wednesday
I went to Ubyssey to drop the Mongolian President's pictures. On the way back, I took this picture at a corner of Ubyssey's office.

After school, I drove to downtown, since I neep to drop the book which I borrowed from the public library. Coincidentally, I met Dongdong on the Robson St. He was with his dog, waiting for another friend. This dog is only 2 months old. Very cute and shy!

Dinner was at Eric's place. He cooked lamb and some tasty soup. I felt alittle bit guilty, since i didn't help him at all. I did nothing but eat........

The lamb was wonderful!

28th October 2004 Thursday
"UBC archives story about special collections. this would make a great photo as there are crazy old books and such - location main library 4th floor - go with writer and shoot it." This is the mission I got today, shooting UBC's achives in Main Library.

I went with the reporter, Ying, and Dongdong as well. Since my editor wants me to shoot sth. which involve a student, like searching some kind of old book or reading those old stuff. So I asked dongdong to be my model. I've never thought UBC could have such a cool place that contains very very old books. I could even find out the first edition of Shakespeare.

Dongdong did a great job and helped me alot. I wish his photo could be printed on the Ubyssey on next Tuesday!

The highlight of today was the basketball game between UBC and Georgia bulldogs (one of the NCAA team). Eric, Dongdong and I went to watch the game. We all thought UBC may lose the game. However, we were TOTALLY wrong. UBC won by 20 points. They played a wonderful game!

Yup, this is the no.11 of T-Birds. He is the leader of UBC's team. He is also my idol. I watched 3 or 4 T-birds game already and this guy impressed me in every single game. His 3-point shooting could be around 85% accurate. For tonight's game, he only missed 2 shoots amount of his 30 more points attribute. I am happy that I got the media pass this year, which allows me to get free ticket for every UBC's game.

I am proud of T-Birds.

29th October 2004 Friday
Around 1pm, I went to W.Gym to shoot Volleyball game between UBC and Stanford. This together with the UBC archive and Mongolian President's pictures will be used on Tuesday's Ubyssey paper.

This is my first time shooting volleyball game. I asked Trista last night for some advise. Staying near the net was all I could get. Frankly, I was a bit nervous when I got there. Since I don't play volleyball, I have no idea about the rule or even how long the game could be. Luckily, I calmed down pretty fast......

I took my time, walking around the gym for 5 mins. After seeing the game from different angles, I finally could have some idea about how to shoot the match.

click here to see more pictures!!!!!!! by the way, I am pretty satisfied with some of these pictures.

T-Birds played very nice. But all they need was a little bit luck. 3:2, Stanford won the match. In the last game, they seal the victory only by 2 points.

Lately I kept shooting sport games. When I organized these pictures, I sometime felt exciting. These pictures could bring me back to the game.

30th October 2004 Saturday
Woow, Sunny day. You can't just stay at home or going to a mall to shopping. GO TO THE NATURE!!!

Trista and I decided to have a day trip at Hope. We want to watch the wild salmon spawning.
After 1.5 hr drive, we were there. There were salmons, but most of them were died already. I took some pictures, however, I really felt terrible whenever I saw the died salmon. I know for female salmon, they died right after the spawn period. I respect the mother nature. However, I just can not enjoy it. Maybe it's too cruel to watch.

So, we drove around the creek, shooting the image of late fall. I love these pictures. I really do. They are my best shoot about fall so far. Trista used my camera, shooting pictures as well. She did a great job.

Although it's raining, the color was so rich. Fall is the most beautiful season in a year. When we were driving aroud the creek, we both wished we could have a trip again at fall in Nova scotia. The scene there will just be stunning.

Please click here to see more pictures about this trip!

This photo was taken by Trista.

oh by the way, the creek we went is called "Sucker creek". Hee hee...I really have no idea why it's called "sucker creek".
