4th September 2004 Saturday
I spend last few days with Trista in Calgary. "Building" up our home there, sweet home. After two days unpacking, we organized and cleaned up the living room and bedroom. It's a really warm place. During the break, we watched Ally Mcbeal, the tv show. Trista bought these 5 seasons all and we love it. I was also impressed by the singer in this show, Vonda Shepard, my new idol.

Most of our furnitures were bought from IKEA.

Yesterday, we also made some b&w photos for Muffin. She is cute. :) hee hee....

Actually, to me, the worest part is saying goodbye to someone you care,to someone you love. I took flight back to Vancouver this afternoon. I saw Trista cried at the airport....and I hate this part. No matter how rich you are, how healthy you are, how deep you love each other, it's always a sad thing for not staying together. On the way back, I thought about ET and James, they are my good friends. They are couples and They stay together in the same city. Maybe I am jealous, but who cares! I do wish couples could live in the same city. There won't be any upset about when/where can meet and when to leave. First day of meeting, great, 2nd day....begin to worry about leaving....3rd day...don't wanna spend it at all and wish the time could be stopped. and on the last day, well, counting down the days for the next meet. Then do this again and again.......I had to try hard to hold my tears.

Anyway, I have faith and I know both of us could be tough!

5th September 2004 Sunday
I went to Fisherman's wharf with Mom to buy fish and shrimps. On the way there, we saw this lovable dog with a big head. Everyone want take picture with this dog. Anyway, it's hard to see how big his head is from this picture but i can say, it's really big.

Something pretty interesting in Fisherman's wharf. If you see the boat with a blue plastic cover on top, then this boat is selling fish. If the boat is in red cover, it is selling shrimps. so, what about a boat sells both fish and shrimps? .................. @_@!!!

I saw these little sharks in a basket. I didn't feel good about it. Why people always wanna eat wild animals? Someday I will just eat vegetables.

sigh................

ET will move to SFU on 6th Sep........Happy Moving!

6th September 2004 Monday
Dongdong got a new car. hee hee..pretty cool.........Enjoy and Drive safe!

It took me almost one day to clean up one of my closet. Since i will move to Burnaby at the end of Sep. I have to start packing early. I hate moving! But sometime it's really interesting to clean up a closet. I could find out lot of stuff which I already forgot. Some gifts I got from others but no longer remembered. Or some small things I bought before........en interesting!

During the packing time, I also installed the Microsoft Visual Studio dotNet. Finally I could let it run. I tried to install this before, but failed. Today, I gave it a try and found out that I need to use disk 1 to boot up the installation guide then insert the disk 5 to update my windows. (last time, I directly used disk 2) Anyway, I got it run and tried the "Hello world" window form program in C#. Well, let me have a fun!

Are you ready for school? I don't know about you but I am. It will be my last term in UBC. I will try hard to enjoy the school life. Tomorrow will be the first day of the fall term class. I know everything will be great! For those who are taking master degree, like Trista, ET...etc. I do wish you guys/girls could enjoy the study and have a wonderful life in school.

Time to sleep.....tomorrow I need wake up around 7am to catch the 480 since I don't think I could find a parking lot on the first day of class.

7th September 2004 Tuesday
...well...............

The amount of crap in the universe is conserved......

.......

Tomorrow. Sep 8th, 2004. 3pm at Ubyssesy Newspaper at bottom floor of the SUB

Ubyssey Photographer Department meeting.

8th September 2004 Wednesday
Please read this: Challenging the assumptions of a global consumer culture. It's from Ubyssey. Nice article!

let's do something for our environment!

Tomorrow, I will take my first assignment from UBC new paper, Ubyssey. I was asked to take pictures for tomorrow UBC soccer game at 5pm by Peter, the photography department head in Ubyssey. I am kind of nervous about it. Few reasons: first, I never took soccer photography before. so I have no idea where and how to take it. Second, tomorrow's weather won't be nice. It gonna be raining day. So i have to carry plastic bags to cover the camera during the shooting. 3rd, raining day won't give me enough light to use fast shutter speed. and beside a 50mm standar lense with F1.8, all of my lenses have F3.5 as the smallest F-stop number.

but i am still exciting about it. If i survive, i could get the media pass from Ubyssey. Happy!

9th September 2004 Thursday
I was so happy today. Lot of good things happened........but now i feel like a shit!

10th September 2004 Friday
Today, I finally got my first infrared photography successfully! I am so exciting about it. Dad came back Vancouver from Beijing yesterday and brought me my old Olympus 2020Z, a 2.3 mpxl digital compact camera. I try to use the camera to catch the infrared beam out from the tv remote control and i could see it from the LCD view finder. Then i figuered that it could be used to take infrared pictures. I set up the tripod and put the camera on it. Since i don't have any filter adapter ring for this kind of compact camera, i have to hand hold the infrared filter. Put it right in front of the camera lense. Then I took shoot of my home yard. Look pretty, isn't it?

All the green grass turns into snow white.............god i like it.

I ordered the adapter ring today and could get it tomorrow noon. I will take more infrared pictures later on. YEAH.....heeeee i am so happy!

I just realized that I didn't upload any pictures for yesterday's soccer game. The game was bettwen UBC and University of Alberta. And they made a draw. It's my first time to shoot soccer game and it's really hard. At least to me. The movement was so fast and i missed lot of opportunities. However, I did catch some nice moments. and Ubyssey will print one of them on next Tuesday's newspaper..........I love this job!

Personally, I like this shoot alot. But my editor doesn't like it. He choosed another one which I can't upload the picture here. (have to wait untill tuesday).

The game was pretty good. I enjoyed alot!

Suddenly, I thought about the soccer team in which I used to play in highschool. The "fire bird". Our best record was the no.5 amount nearly 2000 teams in Beijing. At least, at that time, there were 2000 teams in the match.........I missed the old days! Specially I miss those teammates, who are also my best friends in Beijing!

If any of your guys check out my web site, please tell others that I miss all of you guys! I DO! and the picture is dedicated to our team and those unforgettable memories!

These pictures were taken in the highschool graduation. although i couldn't find the picture for every single one in the team, my memories are always here.

and friendship never die!

12th September 2004 Sunday
I went to deer lake with Trista, dad and mom today. It was a fun trip and we talked alot, about our life and future. I tried to take some pictures in infrared and I like them!

and i think, it's the time to do something!

14th September 2004 Tuesday
I think I like infrared photography more and more. It makes me see things in a different way, other than what I used to see. Although seeing is believing, you have to accept that sometime, something are out there and they are out of your vision.

well headline of today, my picture is published on the Ubyssey news paper today for the first time ever in my life. Although it's only a small piece of picture, i am still proud of myself.

In the early morning today, I got an email from my editor,Peter, asking me to take pictures for a meeting. This meeting is hosted by UBC school of Journalism. Today's guest is called Andreas Zumach, an International Affairs Correspondent for the German Daily. So I packed my camera and got there on time.

But since all my lenses are not fast lenses. They open at the largest Apt F/3.5 which force me to push a 3200 ISO in order to take a clear picture.

Today is a raining day. But I felt warm, because of you!

17th September 2004 Friday
Sunny Day! Finally after few days raining, I could enjoy the sunshine....how wonderful it is. I took my 2020Z together with the kodak infrared filter to UBC today. After class, I walked around campus and took some pictures.

this one was taken in front of the SUB building.

I love UBC's campus. It made me feel good to walk around, seeing different people passing by. and I know I will miss here after I graduate.

Lately, I've been occupied by packing my stuff, family stuff. Since I will move to Burnaby on 24th Sep. There are indeed lot of things to do. Changing address for phone, gas, TV, internet took me the whole afternoon. Well, maybe i will write a web page, listing every phone numbers for those companies so that next time when other people move, they could check the page and calling one by one easily.

During the break, I took a picture of myself. frankly, I didn't mean to shoot myself. I wanna try the shutter speed with the smallest F stop (lense wild open) and ISO 3200. But it turns out that I like this picture. So, I cut part of the picture and put it on the index page. I realized that, everytime, i took picture of myself, the background would always be ........... washroom............

sigh....

Tomorrow, Trista will go to her first field trip in UC. Two old profs, together with 18 master students, camping in Dinosaur Nation Park, Alberta, for two days. Two people per tent, no electricity, no phone call, no shower room. Well That's cool and I really wish her could enjoy the trip, although it gonna be bloody cold and wet.

Tomorrow, Max will go to UBC to study Math, ECON and Computer Science.

Tomorrow, Max gonna miss Trista.

I am listening Nelly Furtado's "Try" again and again.........I like it

19th September 2004 Sunday
Trista went back from her field trip. For what I heard, it's a really interesting trip. Her classmates are kind and all wonderful. They talked alot, drinking wine, eating snacks, talking about relation, study and life. I am so happy that she could get into the life there and enjoy more and more. I also got some pictures she sent to me. By asking the permission, I could upload some of them here. and this dinosaure national park sounds so cool. I will go there next time with her for sure!

Click here for more pictures. (by Trista) I can't deny that Trista always has this different view to take pictures. Even if we were in the same spot, the pictures we took are different in many ways. There is no doubt that I love her work. Another way view of life.

For this weekend, I kept packing and packing. Finally this afternoon, I went out to play tennis with Philippe. He is a nice guy, smart and decent. We had a good time on tennis. Well, before I met him, I walked around in the park. It's so green and pretty in this sunny day. Lot of people caried their cameras, taking pictures.

Because I didn't play tennis for really long time already. All the feeling seems went out to nowhere. and after few mins of play, I have had this big fall on the ground, hard and painful! My arm and leg were bleeding (a little) but I was smilling. I was so stupid. hee hee....anyway, the cloth was broken as well. A bad begining doesn't mean a bad ending. After few hrs of playing, I got my feeling back little by little. hee hee.... Suddenly I remembered that time when I used to work in this Tennis club in Beijing. Old days......I miss it!......

Philippe introduced a tennis club to me this afternoon. The club organizes tennis games on the weekly base. So, they contact their members by email and if you have time, just go and join them at the specific location. I paied 10 bucks for half-year membership. I think it's always good to know more people who have the same interest with you.

21st September 2004 Tuesday
Dongdong took me home from UBC today, since he wanna took some pictures with his 350z. Although the weather wasn't decent, the car still looks cool. I took several shoots and made him a web page.

This is my first time to shoot a car. I felt quite exciting. it's different with taking landscape pictures. Sometime, it's better to rotate the camera to certain angle so that the image may look "cool" or in the motion.

Trista remind me to read ET's weblog tonight when we talked on the phone. She said she once had this samiliar feeling with ET...those "what-if" things.... So, I went to ET's page and read her blog, trying to catch the feeling they have had. Can't deny, both of them have lot of pressure toward their study. New study environment made them doubt about the decision they made before. Frankly, I think this is a good thing. At least, there is the chance that you can use to testify your ability. so that in the future, you know how much you can do and you will know what kind of things you have to avoid. Plus, i think every begining is hard. I remembered someone said that "Every great journey has to start with a single step". so congratulation girls, at least, you guys have your moves already. After this tough step, confidence should be gained and it will stay with you forever and ever.

There is a James and there is a Max. so, ET and Trista, please be happy!

anything they can do, you guys can do better! ........ I have faith on you!

23rd September 2004 Thursday
It seems the theme of these two months is MOVING!

Well well well......i hate moving but i have to do it. Later today, around 6pm, i will go to Burnaby's new place to get the room key and paint the wall. Tomorrow, everything will be moved into the new place. and i probably won't have the internet connection untill 25th which is Saturday. I wish this could be finished soon, really tired of it. CHEER UP!

27th September 2004 Monday
I miss my diary!

well, I am sitting at korner library, using UBC's wireless internet connection, updating my web journal. It's been a while that I couldn't reach internet. I was so busy on the moving, painting the wall, unpacking stuff. But I still have lot of boxes sitting on the floor. GOD HELP ME!!

I miss Trista alot, since I couldn't online to use msn and I had this too little time to talk with her lately. I wish I could clean up everything within these two days so that my life could go back to the normal stage. and I wanna let her know that the past is gone. I DO cherish more on the current and future which always have you in it.

Carolyn will come back soon. Time flied fast. I got this email from her with an attachment about her schedule in Vancouver. She will be pretty busy on those weekends. hee hee..."watch sun rise at stevenson" enn..I wonder that could she get up such early? I never went there to watch sun rise before. Maybe I should go as well to take some pictures. BUT I doubt about myself, since I am getting lazier and lazier.

I met Mr.A just now in MSN. He finally got a decent job, at least it's a job that could pay him enough to take care of his A-money. He is living with his relative now but going to move out and live by himself. I believe his life in Taiwan will get better and better, so does his working experience! GOOD LUCK MAN! I wish I could see you soon!

What about ET lately? Let me check her weblog now. ^_^!!! nothing new there. Anyway, I think she is still trying her best to get used of SFU's gradutate school. I really wish she could cheer up and as confident as before! hee hee She can do it!

I will clean up my new apt. soon. Trista will visit Vancouver on 8th. Carolyn could come back in Oct as well. ET should finish her assignments or midterm by that time. James would be ok if ET is free. Daniel won't miss the gathering. So, what are we waiting for? GO MARIO PARTY!

All pictures I took these days is still in my CF card. I just realized that there are pictures in my laptop that I took in this summer while I was in Ottawa with Trista and Mom. So, let me post this one.

OK time to work!

29th September 2004 Wednesday
shower time.........unavoidable!

Last time we washed muffin was last month. now, it's time to give her a shower. i think muffin is getting used of taking shower more and more. she wasn't as nervous as before, instead, she looked pretty enjoy. (did she?)

what a day today. Trista and I made a long phone call, trying to solve somethings that happened lately which bothered both of us. although it was not a pleasant call, it helped us to find out what was the other one actually thinking. and sometime, an unpleasant phone call could make two people saying true words. anyway, the point is we solved it and ready to move on from the past.

lately, i seemed to have trouble with study. it's really hard to me to sit down and concentrate on what i suppose to do. maybe it's because of the moving. and now, the new apt is getting more and more organized. i do wish i could calm down and doing good on what i should do.

cheer up!

29th September 2004 Thursday
SUNNY DAY! I love sunny day. Specially a sunndy day in fall could always make people feel refreshed.

In the noon, since there were too many people in SUB, Eric and I went to aquatic center to have our lunch. and I saw this guy, sleeping deeply in front of me. :P this is the thing that i could never do, sleeping at public area like this. he is cool!

On the way to the bus loop, a cute little squirrel jumped up a tree with a small piece of food. I grabed my camera and took this picture. since i didn't bring my telephoto lense, so the squirrel is kind of samll.

When i went back home, i was amazed by today's sunset. the sky turned into pink and light red. I went to my balcony, seeing the Mt.Baker at the far back. the mountain was not too clear, but the image was pretty.

I like fall. I like fall alot. It's a season which could make you think. It's also a season of gaining! This is the end of September. All moving things were finished. All the tired feeling of study should be ended as well. Tomorrow, it's another clear day in fall. Tomorrow, i know i will do better.

and I love you as I always do!
