31st Januray 2005 Monday
Two things surprised me.

First, I got last two months' BC hydro bill. It's only 11 bucks. 11 bucks for Dec and Jan.... "__"!!

Second, after working out at the gym, I found myself first time in the 80KG zone...... Oh my god!!!!!!

WHAT A DAY!!!

29th Januray 2005 Saturday
Checking the schedule, tonight is UBC T-birds last home court basketball game in this season. Unless UBC could get into the playoff, there will be no more ball game. Which means that tonight is my last time shooting T-birds game.

In the morning, I went to london drug, printing out around 50 pictures which nicely recording T-birds most enchanting moments during this season. What I planed was giving them to both women and men's team and asked those key players to sign on my photos.

The game was between UBC and UVIC. Last night, both women and men's team lost. Men's team played 2 overtimes but lost at the end. Tonight, every player was so passionate that they became fighters. So, UBC won in both women and men's games.

At the end of each game, I went to ask players to give me autography. Surprisingly, they like my photos and asked me to give them more copies. Specially, I talked with Jordan Yu from the men's team. He lead me to their locker room. So, I had this chance to talk with each player. Hee hee, although they are not nba stars, I did feel happy to talk with them. And I got autographies from them. :)

To me, it's an unforgettable night!

To Eliza Kurttner!

Today, I went back Capilano College to attend Eliza Kurttner's memorial service. First time ever, I wore a black suit attending someone's memorial service. It's sad ...

The service was pretty good. People showed their respect to this wonderful and passionate woman. Lot of people spoke about their feelings and I was touched by some of them. I remembered Jason Madar, another cs prof of mine, quoted what Eliza once told him that "It's the journey that matters, not the destination". I am totally agree with it. Some of the guest speakers couldn't help themselves crying on the stage.

I believe it's a great lost to CapCollege CS department and it's a big tragedy to all of those people who cared about Eliza and whom once being cared by her.

After the memorial service, I walked around the campus. It's been a while that I didn't go back CapCollege. Those farmiliar buildings just reminded me about the old time. This is the cs building where I took most of my cs courses. The first class I took from Eliza was held in this building.

I also went to her office. The name tag was removed but stickers are still on the door. Although I didn't cry at the service, I did miss her, not only as a great prof of mine, but also as a wonderful friend.

Hats off to Eliza Kurttner! You will forever be in my heart!

One more thing to mention. I don't know how many people are actually watching my website everyday. And I don't know how many of them actually know Eliza Kurttner. But this is the favor that I asked for every single one of you. Eliza passed away on 19th Jan 2005, by this terrible mudslide in North Vancouver, leaving her husband, Michael Kuttner, and her 14 years old daughter, Amita, alone. Now, her husband Michael is still in critical condition in the hospital.

.........Sigh........

anyway, there is the Trust Fund for Micheal Kuttner's family. The donation is purely to provide assistance to Eliza's family. And if you once were her student, even if you don't know her, but to help a family, please make the donation. Even a dollar, I am sure it will help!!!!! I will appreciate the kindness shown to them during this difficult time.

Donations to the Michael Kuttner Family Trusta Fund may be made by:
Cash, cheque, VISA, or Royal Bank customer client card, at any branch of the Royal Bank in Canada.

Please help them! PLEASE PLEASE!!!! God will bless you!

I am tired today. The "History of American Economy" was so boring, so did the "Game Theory". Maybe I expect too much on these courses and it turns out to be very disappointed. So, I spend most of my time on reading some computer books.

Yesterday I bought a game from EB. It's a chess game called "Chess Master 9000". I don't know from what time that I have this great interest at playing chess game. I always think the chess game is actually like a war. How well you can manage youself and how well you can make your defense and offense plans will be showed exactly on the chesss board. One of the great features in this game is that it provides a very organized and detailed tutorial about how to play a chess game. The tutorial could help you from beginner level till what it called master level. So I will spend some time on the game. (well, i am sure it will probably be around 30 mins per day)

I am tired and sleepy..........

24th Januray 2005 Monday
2:40 in the morning, I couldn't fall in sleep.

In Oct 2004, I mailed out 5 pictures taking in Tibet, Nepal and EastCanada to a Canadian magazine, "Photo Life", to attend its "International 2004 Photo Contest". I know I am just a beginner and there are way too much knowledge for me to learn and to practice. However, deep inside my heart, I still have this greedy hope that maybe one of them could grant me a prize. I checked the result online tonight. Beside some really nice winning pictures, I couldn't find any one of mine....... I was a bit low about this result.

I am glad that I still have this strong passion toward photography and I know one day, my dream will come true.

The picture above is the one which I wish I could get prize on. The picture below is the 1st Prize image.

By looking at this winning image, I got lot of inspirations. From those pictures, I know I need to work hard on the composition.

23rd Januray 2005 Sunday
Oh GOD! I found myself in the great danger of first year science. Those basic science concepts are killing me. I have to ask Trista or googling questions like: what is Molar Mass; how many protons, neutrons and electrons in a certain atom; how many Joule I could get if I have 1kg of Hydrogen to do some stupid fusion reaction. And now I finally remember 1 Joule of energy = 1 km m^2 s^-2 = 1 Watss-second.

Just before I was killed by the science concept, the bloody Tomcat server raped me with no mercy. It took me almost 1 hr try to figure out what's wrong with my JSP code, since both of my computer and the remote server gave me this weird error. And I was frustrated by the result.

I went to take shower, since shower is the only way to make me relax and calm down. Then I upload the same files again. And now it works! Sigh, What the....!

Today, I read an interesting article about one of the co-creator of FireFox.(well, right...again!!). The article is named Teen Is Co-Creator of Firefox Browser and it begins as following:

By age 10, Blake Ross was designing Web pages on America Online.
By 14, after mastering complex programming languages such as C++,
he was fixing bugs in Netscape's Web browser from home, a hobby that
                      landed him a job offer......

It's unbelievable!

Surprisingly, I found myself and Trista in ET's weblog. Hee hee Thx ET!!!

The first one was taken in Seattle. Click here for more detail.

2nd one was taken while we (ET, James, Trista and I) had hotpot at my place. More Pictures

Mourning the loss of Eliza Kuttner

Couple of days ago, I got the news from Dongdong. He told me that Eliza Kuttner, our first computer science prof in Cap-College, died in the mudslide that occurred in North Vancouver. I was then shocked again when I saw the news from CTV. Here is the link to Vancouver Sun's report about this mudslide.

She was a very good prof, kind and responsible for every single student. I took 3 courses from her and I do appreciate those wonderful moments.

According to Cap-College's website, there will be a memorial service on 28th Jan from 12:30 to 13:30. I will be there for sure.

It's still sad, but it's life.

Highly recommend by Johnson, I finally downloaded the Mozilla FireFox browser. FireFox is built and distributed free by the Mozilla Organization, a small nonprofit corporation. I used it for one night and I think i will not switch back to IE. Why Firefox is better than IE? Check out this article. One simple word could describe the reason: SECURE!

If you are using it right now, make sure you set a master password for your porfile. Otherwise, all your saved passwords are accessible as plain text in the option screen!

18th Januray 2005 Tuesday
Trista left Vancouver today. Suddenly, I felt lonely and miss her alot.

I went back home. Muffin was "meow meow" to me. I could see that she was looking for Trista. Later tonight, she was sitting on the floor, facing directly to the door. I wanna tell her that Trista won't be back in a month but I think she will figure it out after all.

After a month, I am now dying in front of my computer, picking up those things that I left behind. Although I miss Trista alot, I do think that it's time for me to start making effort. Two people's world is wonderful but after all, love is not the bread.

Anyway, I drove out at night and bought half dozen of original glaze from Krispy Kreme and a cup of coke which could keep me up late. I downloaded 1GB of soundtrack of "Initial-D" from BT. The music is good. With coke, krispy kreme, music and endless JSP and PHP code, I am alive again in front of my computer.

Sometime, you have to face life all alone. And it's the time to put the loneliness behind and enjoy every single moment.

I just like those songs from "Initial-D". It makes me so wanna drive!!!! Go subaru WRX!

14th Januray 2005 Friday
Friday night, basketball night!

As usual, I went to take picture for the men's game. Trista and Eric went with me as well. Birds won 83-68 over cross-town rival Trinity Western. No.11, Casey Archibald had 4 straight 3-point shooting within 5 mins in the 2nd half of the game.

Lately, I found myself more and more comfortable to shoot the sports game. It takes me less time to manually focus the image. I still wish I could do better and taking some good pictures for Thunder-birds teams. I realized that there won't be too much games for me and I should cherish every single game.

Today is Jan 14th. Trista will go back Calgary on 18th which is next Tuesday.

Frankly I really don't want her go away. I've already got used of living with her. And I know she doesn't want to leave me and muffin neither. But life is life. The only thing that matters is reality.

Sometime, I blame myself for couldn't keep the one I love close to me. Sometime when I wake up in the midnight, I wish I could do something to change the reality. I want to have this strong ability to chose the life I want, not just living in the life which I have to enjoy.

Self-improvement, a change in quality other than quantity, is what I am really looking for.

I have too many dreams. I MUST make them come true.

And baby I promise you, everything will be just fine! I love you!

12th Januray 2005 Wednesday
Today, the Israel Embassador came to UBC. He had this nice speech at UBC's Law building. I, as the Ubyssey photographer, went to take picture for this guy.

Untill I took out my camera, I didn't realize that I've being taking sport photography for really long time. As the result of practicing from these sport events, I felt way easier to take portrait pictures today than I ever did before.

I still wish I could have a faster lense, so that I don't need to push the ISO to 3200 or 1600, which could bring lot of noise on the picture.

Two of Trista's highschool friends came from Toronto, they will go back China tomorrow noon. So, Trista and I went to have dinner with them together with two other friends. We went to eat at a Japanese Restaurant. It's all you can eat. And we just ordered too much. In order to finish the food, we had to play game and the loser need to eat something. After few rounds, we finally cleaned up the table....... And tonight's dinner could save me couple of months' sushi.

Put aside the sushi, I had a good time with them.

10th Januray 2005 Monday
Imaging, when you finally decide to go to school on time, the class then has been canceled. What will you do? Well, I do smile and say "What a wonderful world!" to myself.

Tonight, Trista and I had our "1st time home-court fondue event". We had orange and green apple, eating together with this good taste melted chocolate. It's really sweet and nice!

While eating this wonderful fruit fondue, we watched a dvd movie called "Wimbledon". It's a movie from the same maker of "Notting Hill" and "BJ Diary". I like the style of the movie. Trista likes it alot either.

And London.... a place we will go for sure!

By checking some news online, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie gonna perform together in a 20 Century Fox's movie, called "Mr. And Mrs Smith". I wish I could have time to watch this movie at that time. It will be released around 10th June 2005. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are both my favourite movie actor/actress. Check out the trailer here.

8th Januray 2005 Saturday
This morning, Trista sent me a picture about the Tsunami. I was totally shocked. I know it was a terrible tragety but the image made me thrilled. I think I will make donation with Trista. Even a little bit, I believe it will help.

Forget about the sadness. Vancouver has been snowing for 3 straight days. In the early afternoon, Trista asked me to go playing snow with her. Since there is a creek trail behind my building, we decided to go hiking around the trail. Hee hee, of course, we took our cameras and tripod together with us.

Please click here to check out the picture about the Byrne Creek. I love the snow scene there!!!

Dinner time, we went to eat sushi with Priscilla and her boy friend, Charles. We had a very nice dinner and followed by a wonderful cake dessert.

Priscilla and Charles is a sweet couple. Trista and I enjoyed the dinner and the talk with them. It's always good to know more friends.

7th Januray 2005 Friday
Hee hee, finally, UBC T-birds gonna have home court games. Eric, Trista and I went to watch the game. As usual, I need take picture for both women and men's games.

The women team played a wonderful game. They won about 40 more points. However, the men's game wasn't too good. They took the lead for most of the game but lost at the end by 3 points. Although UBC lost, I still enjoyed the game alot. Specially, I took one of my best picture for basketball so far.

I wish my editor could use it for the next tuesday's issue.

6th Januray 2005 Thursday
Let is snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!!

Finally, Vancouver is snowing. When I woke up this morning, everything outside was covered by snow.

On the way to school, two 98-Blines were stuck on 10th Ave, few blocks west of Alma St. The bus driver of the 98-Bline that I took decided to make a detour to avoid the endless waiting. However, the bus was stuck on 8th Ave as well and the bus driver had to drop off everyone. So, I walked 5 blocks back to the Alma Station. "__"!!!

It's bloody cold!!

Since the accident of 98-Bline, I was too late to take the first class. So, I walked around campus, taking picture of the snow scene.

Talking about UBC, yesterday, I went to the DMP building, the new computer science building. It's a cool building. The classroom was big and pretty. Each person will have his/her own power outlet and internet cable plug. But I felt cold there. Today, when I walked into LSK, I felt like going back home. Although the building was indeed OLD but I just love there.

Late afternoon, Trista and I went to watch "THE INCREDIBLES" at downtown. Finally, we could have chance to watch it. It's a great movie. I almost forgot that I was watching a 3D cartoon.

Pixar is always the best!!!

2nd Januray 2005 Sunday
