10D 30th November 2005 Wednesday
Many things happened today!

The HSBC ATM machine took my bank card. I had to go to the home branch to get it.

Liz quit her job at Ubyssey to concentrate on her school stuff.

My Ubyssey business cards are available now.

Michelle got the 20D.

But for what really matters to me is that I decided to sell my 10D to Trevor. And I cried when I cleaned her and packed her into the box. Anyway I'd rather have someone to press her shutter than putting her into the box as a backup camera.

So many memories......... I gonna miss her alot.

The only thing to cheer me up is that I have this agreement with Trevor. In a year, when he wants to upgrad the camera, I will buy my 10D back. And then I will never let her go again. Plus, I know Trevor is a nice guy and he will love and take care of her.

With sadness and loneliness, farewell my baby!

Hi Max,
Below is a list of graphics/photos we need for the satire issue (I hear it's going to be a 20 pager).
Sorry for the fairly late notice. If this issue makes you cry, I'll buy you a cookie, or at least some liquor.
This is the satire issue, so photos can be blatantly photoshopped, ripped off the internet, badly put together
in a "comic" way. Don't worry if it's not perfect. And thanks for your time.

NEWS
--As many photos of Martha Piper (from the archives, etc) that you can muster. Especially ugly and unflattering ones.
(We're doing a farewell Martha spread! haha) --The Doodlebops photo from a bit ago --A photo somehow showing UBC sliding into the Pacific? Or being submerged in water?

--A student using an Interac machine

--A cliched "UBC experience!" photo (smiling happy students) with turbans photoshopped onto them.

--A student sitting at a desk looking really abrasive and ignorant (think homophobe) --A student listening to an iPod

--A student holding up an essay they've written, looking really proud --A student pundit -- dumb politican

SPORTS
--Basketball player, preferably looking grumpy

--Students jousting (ask Eric) --Student brooding

CULTURE
--Something Christmassy

--Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore morphed into a six-armed teen-music horrifying glitsy monster creature

--The Bible --Picture of the 3 kids from Harry Potter (need especially for the main girl, Hermione, so be prominent)

OPINION
--Brian Sullivan
--Derrida

YES Alex, at this point, I do wanna cry!!!

29th November 2005 Tuesday
2am, on the way home from Ubyssey office, it's snowing badly. I took this photo while I was driving.
It looks cool.

Somewhere near my place, I stopped at a parking lot. Trees there were lighten up by the street light.

I was sitting in the car with Keith Jarrett's "Standard Vol.1", watching the snow falling down from the sky.
Everything was so quiet and peaceful. In my head, I tried my best to remember Arthur Rimbaud's "Drunken Boat"...

"I've dreamt the night, green to the dazzling snow.
Kissing the sea's eyes, climbing and slow ... ..."

When I started the engine again, it's 4 o'clock in the morning.

28th November 2005 Monday
Have you ever walked in downtown east side? Today, I had a chance walking with Bryan, the feature editor, on Hasting Street between Cambie and Main st. It's a totally different experience to me, thrilled, excited but sad.

I decided to carry a wild angle 17-40mm Lens. In this way, I had to get close to every single object. I talked to people before I took photo. Some of them were nice and allowed me to take photo. Some of them were weird and pissed off by my camera.

Anyway, check out my photos here! I named this collection after John Milton's epic poem "Paradise Lost".

26th November 2005 Saturday

Yes, Max's bar menu!!

Cocktails for the poker night party!!!

check out these photos!!

25th November 2005 Friday
The following photo explains the reason of why you could never use a fisheye lens to make portrait photo.

Tomorrow, well, should be today. It's 2 am already. I will hold a poker night party with Ubyssey editors. First time ever to fit 14 people in my place. Gonna be a mess!!! But I am kind of exciting. $_$

24th November 2005 Thursdays
I love my billingham bag. It looks so nice with the camera. It reminds me about London and Trista.

I am sitting in the Ubyssey office. Tired and bored......

21th November 2005 Monday
Last weekend, I went out shooting Rugby game . Although it's a foggy day, the photo turned out way better than I expected. The fog just made everything cooler than ever!

I uploaded some photos of the game. Please check it out. I feel more and more comfortable to shoot sports.

One more week for Ubyssey before the end of 2005. Only 4 months left in 2006.
I am counting down the days and I am sad. Anyway, it's 3am and I should go sleep.

20th November 2005 Sunday
Foggy day. Everything seems so pretty and unusual.

A short shopping session in the afternoon, I had new haircut, DVD for "Friends season 10" and a 2nd hand CD of Radiohead's "My iron lung".

After I went back home, Muffin carefully examed my hair and presented her opinion. She didn't like the smell of the hair gel but she thought the haircut was ok. "It's just shorter, nothing special...... Sigh, I am worried about your taste." Muffin said. But after I told her the price, she went crazy. @_@!! ^.^# @_#!

Usually, settle down a crazy cat took a while. But today it just went smoothly. So, I had some free time and took this photo in the washroom. My parents could see me from the internet. So does Trista.
Well, of course you, Anonymous A!

YEAH, DINNER! This is the reason that I love Sunday. I could have time to cook something. lately, I've been eating different food from SUB (Hey Mom, don't worry!! SUB = Student Union Building, NOT SUBWAY!!) for almost a month. Time to cook some healthy food!

I prepared chicken with potato and salmon. YUP CHIECKEN GRILL with WINE!

16th November 2005 Wednesday
Running into the Music Flute, my favorite music store on 4th Ave. I bought two cds. Mitsuko Uchida 's Mozart piano concertos and Christopher O'Riley's "Hold me to this".

I was listening Uchida's cd on the way home and impressed by her skill. She has this magic talent to present the music in her own romantic way. I checked out her discography and made myself a buying list.

The reason that I decided to buy the 2nd CD was the album name, "Christopher O'Riley plays Radiohead".

What's gonna happen when a classical pianist plays the music written by an art-rock group?
Can't wait to find out.

13th November 2005 Sunday
Can't believe that I woke up at 1:30pm. Muffin got up at 3:30 ...... What are we? Pig? @_@!!

FINALLY!!!!! I finish updating the Ubyssey News Photo for October 2005.

2500 photos for the past two weeks. It just takes me forever to organize them. This is the photo that I took last weekend in Victoria's Elk Lake. It's hailing at that time but nice rainbow.

Friday, I went to downtown in the morning, photographing the memorial events for Remembrance's day. Again, it was raining, cold and wet! WHY? Why it has to be a raining day whenever I went out taking photo.

Evening time, Basil had a party in his place under the theme of 1940's. I had some beer, white wine + rum.

And the party ended up with people crowded in Basial's single size bed, talking and drinking.

Saturday, working as usual in the day time and taking photo for Hockey game in UBC at night. I met Michelle in the office before the game and was told that her website was finally ready.

I feel like writing a chronicle.

Martini time. I want to find out who killed Mei and I miss Yuki as well.

9th November 2005 Wednesday
Last night was a mess. When we almost digitized all the pages, the printing company called and told us that page 4 and 9 will be black & white. I had to change some of my good looking color photos into B/W. SAD!!!!

Michelle was on her Master Cleanse. Day 5, for sure a tough day to her. How could she survive in the Ubyssey production night without food? Hats off to you!

Bill Graham, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, came visiting UBC today. I got some nice shots and had chance to take photo with him together. :P

Bill Graham

Pity that the photo was out of focus. :(

My Canon family reunion.
From the left, EOS 10D, 17-40mm F4L, 70-200 F2.8 IS L, 24-70mm F2.8L, EOS 1D MarkII N.

Trista is in Toronto and gonna be there for a week. I miss her alot. Calgary or Toronto, it shouldn't make too much difference to me. Why I miss her more than ever? Maybe I am too weak lately.

8th November 2005 Tuesday
Flight AC 0211 landed in the YVR airport at 11:40 Vancouver time. I paid 15 dollars for the over night parking then drove my 3.2 TL along the HWY 91 all the way home.

Before I go to the paper production in UBC, I still had sometime for myself. I cleaned Muffin's litter box, brushed her, feed her and fill-up her water bowl. I washed my clothes, cooked a cup of rice, got changed into my swimming suit then went downstair swimming for 20 mins. 20 mins, long enough to refresh myself and make me realize that this is only the begining of my day in Vancouver.

After I went back from the swimming pool, I put those washed clothes in the drier, took a shower, brushed my teeth, warmed up the beef that I cooked on the weekend. Then I made myself a Martini with Gin and sweet vermouth. Now, the beef is ready, so does the rice. I am having lunch while updating my website. In another 20 mins, I will leave home again, starting my work in Ubyssey.

Sometime, simple is better.

7th November 2005 Monday
I can't stand anymore. How to say goodbye to the past?

6th November 2005 Sunday
Day trip to Victoria with Megan. We were on the mission to cover the Canadian University Rowing Championship games. It's a fun trip. I enjoyed it.

A Subaru parked in front of my car with "I support rowing on Elk Lake" on it.

Despite the bad weather during the game( it was actually hailing ), I photographied this photo with a rainbow at the far back. The price I paid is my new camera/lens getting complete wet and exposed in hail. Thank God that they are still functioning well. At least for now.

I will update more photos later on.

But for now ... time for me to sleep and forget about all the unhappiness.

Good luck Michelle on your Master Cleanse. 7 days to go! You can make it.

5th November 2005 Saturday

"I closed my eyes and struggled for an answer. But in my head no one was at home. I was abandoned, sitting in a vast empty chamber, alone. No one could give me the answer. I'd sit, grow old, and shrivel in that room. No dancing here. Very sad."

2nd November 2005 Wednesday
Wednesday, the most relaxing day in the whole week. I could have time to watch the NFL game with a cup of beer in hand. And I have time to cook. It took me 2 hours to make the beef stew (of course in Chinese way)and it's so delicious that I couldn't stop eating them.

enn..Muffin is meowing to me. What does she want? #_#!! ^.^!! @__@!!!

Tequila?

I ordered the "Last Place On Earth" from Chapter today. The book that may change my life.

1st November 2005 Tuesday
Hallowen with a group photo of Ubyssey!

Costumes with Gin and Hennnessy.... Very Superior Old Pale.

Another Keith Jarrett's CD that I bought. Can't wait to try it out.

I should write more in the blog but I am very sleepy. 4 hours sleep is definitely not enough to me.
