26th February 2006 Sunday
I'm angry, confused and sad.

Sometime, I feel I care way too much or treat something way to serious. And it hurts me. It hurts the relation with my friends.

It sucks ......

25th February 2006 Saturday
UBC mens's basketball team lost their first home court game tonight. I am sad. #_#

Tomorrow UBC will play against UVIC again. Good luck T-birds!

Last night, I had a chance shooting in a professional studio. Phew ...... I survived!

I thought I knew alot about photography. However, within 5 mins of the shooting session, I realized that how shallow I was. I did appreciate this opportunity. David, the owner of the studio, who is a professional photographer shooting intensively in movie industry gave me a nice hands on tutorial on the basic studio lighting setup and teaching me how to pose the model and how to communicate with her.

We shot under 4 different lighting setups. It's so fun!

Joannes and I took this photo together in David's studio

I am going to learn about the studio lighting as much as I can.

23rd February 2006 Thursday
Another production night, I am just too tired to sleep......

On the way home, I played the CD of Gidon kremer playing J.S Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo. This is Kremer's second recording of the Bach unaccompanied sonatas and partitas for violin. Pity that I don't own his first recording, with Phillips in 1980.

Let it never be said that Gidon kremer's interpretations are in any way samiliar to anyone. The thing that struck me listening to this recording is the forceful angularity of the playing, heartfelt, staccato but never mechanical.

This is truly a fresh.

Couple of my photos are used in "Hockey Now" magazine's current issue. One of them is on the cover.

The editor contacted me last night looking for another photo to use for the next issue. Very happy to see my photo on a commercial magazine.

Nothing could cheer me more than getting the CPS membership from Canon. 2 years of self-learning with over 40,000 photos, this is the best compliment ever. Being a Canon certified professional photograher was one of my dreams. Today my dream comes true.

There are still a lot of stuff to learn and I am far away from the professional. I should push myself even harder in the future. With all my hardwork, one day I will become a good photographer, a professional one!

I have faith!!!

How can I stop loving photography? I have way too much passion toward it.

I read an article on Vancouver Sun today. It's about a Vancouver-raised journalist, Finbarr O'Reilly, who won the World Press Photo of the Year.

Another article about him on the NPPA website.

O'Reilly's story seduced me and dragged me into the endless thinking. How could I find out my own direction of photography?

10th February 2006 Friday
My parents went back Beijing yesterday. Trista and I moved back to Burnaby. Finally, I have time to update my blog.

Last night was the Ubyssey production night. After finishing my own stuff, I took some photos in the office of other editors.

Bryan was thinking about his feature article.

Michelle was picking up the left over Chinese food ...

Reading break is coming. I want to take a short break and go out taking some photos.

I wish I could be there taking photo for Canada and China...... One day, I will make it!!!

5th February 2006 Sunday
I am falling in love with Murakami Haruki's novels.

From "Dance Dance Dance" to "Sputnik Sweetheart" till what I am reading now "South of the border, West of the sun".

It's a strange feeling. And it's weird. It seems like I could always find myself, maybe not 100% but at least part of me, in his book.

Jazz, classical music, cat, books, delicious food, subaru, women, sex and a strange attitude toward life.

The world he created attracts me from the world I am living in. Irresistible ......
